Instead of the guy spending $160, and having to put aside the space for two separete PS2s, My advice…īuy 1 good condition phat model, put a 160GB HDD in it and HDAdvance, and take a little time to do the flip-top mod.ĭone. Add in uLaunchELF and you have a file browser/homebrew launcher that you can use to back up saves, among other things. With a combination of Free MC Boot, ESR, and HDLoader you shouldn’t ever have to swap discs.

There’s tutorials out there that’ll show you how to convert CD games to DVD games though.

The patch makes the ps2 think the disc is a DVD video disc, which leads me to its only drawback: ESR only works with DVD games.

All you need to do is create an iso of your game, patch it with ESR’s patcher, burn it, put it in the ps2 and launch ESR. It was made specifically to work with FreeMCB and let’s you boot any game (including DVD9 games) without the need to swap. With it, you can run apps from your memory card or a connected usb device.Ĭheck out ESR, too. After it’s installed it’ll work on any ps2 of the same region provided the memory card is present in one of the slots.

Free MC Boot basically turns your ps2 memory card into a pseudo mod chip that’ll load a custom system menu on startup. If you’re going for soft mod you definitely need Free MC Boot. The only reason I’d possibly use swap magic now is to put essential homebrew apps (Free MC Boot, uLaunchELF, ESR, HDLoader, CDLoader v7/Beta 5.2) onto an unmodded ps2. I got my second ps2 used like 4 or 5 years ago and because of HDLoader that thing is still beasting. My ps2 currently uses a combination of HDLoader, ESR, and CDLoader. I will go with a Fat Ps2 and HD loader, easier and no need to mod your system that all, plus fast loads and more life for your PS2, any ways I have the 2 Swapmagic disc laying around P.M. It’ll be worth it cuz the stress, fatigue, and hassle of swapping finally gets done n over with…plus, you can get a bunch of ps1 japan only kick ass fighting games for waaaaaaay cheap. Then, get a used japanese ps2 from ebay for 100 bucks…trust me, there is one being sold there for that much, right now.Įither pay 50 bucks ems shipping(highly recommended), a used ps2 from their website,is like…brand new level of condition/quality. Get a refurbished fat ps2 from for 60 buckaroos…NOT DIRECTLY from a gamestop store, mind you! the quality/condition of that used ps2 is the diff between night n day. Plus…swapmagic won’t boot up japanese ps1 games! and there are a ton of good ps1 fighting games in japan, bro. Which is why i have yet to play my 40 dollar rumble fish game! The rumble fish fighting game that i have, the swapmagic 3.6 wont boot it up cuz that game’s toc size is 3.6,but the sm dvd disc is only 3.5…the sm cd disc is 3.6 or 3.8…but rumble fish game is a dvd game…and you can only boot up dvd games with dvd SM,cd games with cd SM. It can’t boot up dvd games that have a toc size larger than 3.5 Lastly, get a used japanese ps2 for 100 bucks+50bucks ems shipping.

HO TO INSTALL FREEMCBOOT DISC SWAP MAGIC 3.6 MODS
Is there a fix or something I can load to make it compatible? Have I got the process right? I don't have any mods or anything else running. It seems like it isn't loading the Swap Magic properly and I have a sneaking suspicion it's because it's a newer model that may be incompatible with these Swap Magic discs. I have also tried switching from component to original RGB. I have tried setting it to PAL and NTSC also, both with the same result. I can select the Swap Magic disc and it'll go back to the load screen again - basically back to square one. So I'll press load again to try again - this time it'll go to the browser and say no data is loaded, but then it'll show the swap magic disc again. It flashes a reddy colour at the top, then goes back to the Swap Magic load screen - all the while the disc does not stop spinning. I leave it on normal and press the top option to load the disc.

The process: It loads the Swap Magic disc fine it goes to the load screen and gives me two options, load the disc and set to Normal/PAL/NTSC. I'm using the Swap Magic DVD Disc 3.6 Plus to load my games as they are DVDs. I have the following setup and I'm trying to play my imported JRPG originals (NTSC).
